Where Journalism is Now

Journalism as a whole is in an interesting state in 2022, it is so important to our country, but unfortunately, the general public has grown to not trust journalism as much as they used to. One of the main reasons why is the rise of fake news or misleading articles. Fake news can be very damaging as if an article goes viral containing false information, it can be really harmful. In this editorial piece, I found a very powerful quote about journalism "And then there’s the need for journalists and their producers to restore the people’s faith in their work. It’s of paramount importance to ensuring a well-informed citizenry that is so essential to a healthy democracy."

Another crucial aspect about journalism these days is the rise of social media, social media is a huge aspect to the world of journalism. With the way people want information faster and quicker than ever before, social media use is a key tool for journalists to use.

Ethics

When thinking about ethics, it is important to think about how they are connected to journalism. Practicing proper ethical journalism is even more needed than ever before. In The Elements of Journalism  there are 10 principles to practicing good journalism. The first principle is the one that really struck a chord with me. "Journalism's first obligation is to the truth." I found that to be a really powerful statement as showing the truth whether it is good or bad, is always crucial to telling a story.
