The PRSA Code of ethics is designed to be carried out and followed by PRSA members as they follow ethical responsibilities. Especially with advertisers, they must follow these specific principles and codes of ethics to reach their target audience or meet the standards of a particular demographic. There is an industry-standard that is held by most companies which is seen by most professionals and organizations. As for an advertisement that is ran by a company or an organization, if that company provides an ad that has advocacy for the public and provides facts in which will benefit long-term, has high standards of honesty when communicating with the public, is loyal when making the public interest a priority, then the company will succeed.

Advertising and Social Media

Social Media Advertising has made a significant impact on companies because social media platforms are constantly making drastic changes. These advertisements must stick out to specific demographics that will give them the potential to reach their larger "target niches." Also, several marketers and advertisers use these social media platforms to help promote their brands. Although there are many positives about using social media advertising, there are many privacy concerns and cultural narratives about the safety of these strategies. Privacy concerns are important, especially to significant companies when focusing on the digital changes, privacy online, and specific data posted online. Especially with advertisements being posted all over social media platforms now, are we supposed to trust we see everything online? Several ethical issues are constantly brought up in advertisements between the digital age and real life.

Issues With Social Media Advertising

Although social media advertising has been a positive for many companies through public relations, influencer marketing, and campaigns, there are ethical issues that come along with it. How can your company become more ethical towards customers when advertising? Companies must be socially aware, watching how the consumer interacts with each platform before making an advertisement and placing an ad according to the right demographic that fits your company. Customers looking to buy a product respond positively to a more ethical and honest company about what product they are promoting.

Businesses and Ethics

When businesses are able to thrive and are ethical, their company is more likely to succeed. Especially with social media marketing, promoting the brand to the target audience will gain more customers. The Institute of Advertising Ethics (IAE) was created to inspire advertisers, public relations and specific marketing professionals in order to practice the highest of ethics when gaining more consumers. These principles are used to develop new ideas in marketing and advertising while making sure that ideas are open and honest.
