Business Ethics and Principles

Every company has it's own explanation of what ethics, principles and morals mean within their walls. In advertising, truth and fairness to consumers is key. Without the consumer, the advertiser has no target audience. Keeping good faith among consumers is the lifeline of any advertising agency.

With so many platforms for advertising now, it is more imperative than ever to be in front of consumers and not just meeting them where they are and backing up the products they sell at all costs. That starts with companies following their own ethics codes and principles and practicing what they preach in-house. If they can be successful in this they can be successful in providing the consumer goods they can be proud of.

Companies should always practice truth in standing by their products and the quality in which they produce them. The companies that stand by their products and advertising and build trust with their customers stay around for a long time like Coca-Cola, for example. One of Coca-Cola's main ingredients in their code is 'integrity' which is outlined in their Code of Business Conduct. Being one of the most recognizable brands around the world it is important that Coca-Cola stands for and practices what they preach to their employees and business partners.

When the consumer sees that a company values their own code of ethics and principles this can make the consumer feel safe in spending their hard earned money with said company. Knowing this the consumer can trust that whenever they see an advertisement for Coca-Cola and any of it's brands/subsidiaries that they'll receive they highest quality product possible.

This is why any company, but especially those that have been around many years, go out of their way to create and generate good publicity and hope to stay away from any type of scandal. Should something nefarious take place under their umbrella companies will immediately go into damage control using different forms of media including advertising to remind consumers of the ethics and morals they stand for. One bad news story can really hurt the companies bottom line so they look to avoid these ordeals at all costs.

But once companies like Coca-Cola have that long term built in consumer following it takes a lot to get people to go away from such a trusted product. When companies are honest and stand by integrity in their products and are up front in their advertising and business practices, consumers tend to stay loyal and continue returning with their business.
