It is mentioned that the reason why journalists could survive for a century of years until today in society. It has its nessasarity for existence which is the independent and reliable and accurate information and news around the people living in this society could be discovered and reported to the public. But since the high-speed development of modern society, the public news companies are trying to make news more tend to be the way more entertaining so that the journalists will be neglecting the faithful and high-quality approach on the way reaching out the news.
However, from the side of the journalists themselves to be neutral is also hard to fulfill sometimes. Human beings have their sentimental natural that hard to treat things in an absolutely objective way and their values and thoughts vary from person to person as well.
Under nowadays big digital environment where everything is linked with each other and the data and information are shared with each other online. It also offers excellent platforms for the communication of the news media. So under this circumstance, the journalists have to take more consideration when they investigate and decide to post the news. Throughout this news exploring process, a bunch of obstacles would show up inevitably such as the threat and the suppressed form the domestic or foreign government. Since the high speed of the news circulation of this digital age so that the governments have to prevent the disclosure of the news carefully since the sensitivity of some type of news. The public news platforms have been penetrating everyone's daily life and people are using Facebook, Instagram and etcetera almost everyday and surrounded by the news. So the news released in various forms will have the specific direction of the public opinion. In order to control with it sometimes the officails always try to take actions to restrain the news companies.
Journalists are all like the navigation for the public so that it is always crucial to have the right orientation for them to follow. Although the barriers and pressure on the journalists whatever for the marketplace needs or the governments' interference they still need to strive for a consistent and diverse culture for their faith. Also for the whole synthesis development of the culture. Because only if the news culture become fair and objective the public citizens could balance their own judgment and find out the truth from the various news eventually.
Hi Yichen! =) You make a great point that journalists should strive to be accurate and complete in their reporting, even with the speed of news, and social media. As others have mentioned,there are journalistic codes that say publishing quickly is not reason for an oversight in truthfulness. Even if it takes a bit longer to write up a story, if it is accurate and ethically written, it will be worth it. Regardless of government interferrance, or other obstacles like you mentioned, the goal of journalism to give the public objective information to that they can make their own judgements, is a noble cause indeed =)
