Journalism
is a concept that has changed a lot over the years. It is a way to express your
thoughts and feelings, as well to get information out to the public. For the
longest time journalism was a way to get details about different people, this
could be coworkers, bosses or even family members. Journalism was also a way to
share different writing styles such as poems or long stories. (https://www.universalclass.com/articles/writing/journalism-a-brief-history.htm)
People
wanted a way to express themselves as well to get news across to others about
different situations happening in the communities, nationally or even just
between families. From there journalism began to get a bad reputation as more
and more people began to become to have more opinions about different issues
that were brought up. More people wanted to discuss different values or ideas
that different journalists were posting This led to the idea of more discussions
which allowed for people to begin to choose sides on different issues, which is
still very relevant now.
In society now not only are people
able to tell others their opinions face to face but they are able to hide
behind a screen to do so. Online journalism has begun to skyrocket in not only
its comments but also in its popularity. More and more people are beginning to
look to the internet for their updates on different issues and concepts that
come up in the news. People can still share their creativity of different
issues by posting different images, poems or even artwork to show how they are feeling.
Taking a look at where journalism began and how it is now used gives me a better
perspective on what is expected as well as what the different options are now
to express your opinions in today’s society. There are still those who like to
read the paper as well as watch the news like myself and there are also others
who enjoy using the ever-rising idea of social media to share their opinions to
the world. https://www.journalismfestival.com/news/what-is-journalistic-creativity/
As society and more and more people
are deciding to become journalists, I am very interested to see how the idea of
journalism begins to change as well as what traits will stay. However, I am
very excited to see how different journalistic styles are demonstrated as we
learn more about them in this class. I hope to learn more about how to become a
better journalist and to find out what media of journalism is the best for me
to express myself.
