What Kind of Friend are You?

Think of a time where you were in a group or out in public and you were talking about everyone’s future goals. You will have the people who want to build spaceships, start their own business or even become a vet.

Someone then asks you what you want to do with your life, and you shrug and say I want to be a journalist. Many times, people make the comments of “oh fake news” or “what is the point of their job.” You feel now doubt in yourself and sometimes you feel as if maybe they are right?

However, what you need to remember that you are doing what you want to do. You can’t let others tell you that what you want to do with your life isn’t important because it is. The world always needs people to tell them what is going on in the world. Also, what people tend to forget sometimes is that journalists are people like you and me.

We aren’t always perfect and to describe what a journalist is to the people who ask me sometimes is I compare them to a friend. A friend always does their best to have your back, to be honest and fair and most times they are there to help you learn.

Just like a journalist friends are people who you know that you can trust and rely on in your times of need.

According to the articles this week many of the sites talked a lot about being honest and trying to build trust between those who are reading our pieces. This is a huge contributor to be a friend, you want someone who you know you can trust.

Being a trustworthy news source is something that not only the public deserves but also that you as a journalist deserve.

You should know that as a journalist you should strive to be honest and try to help others. Your goals should never be to deceive your reader in any way, shape or form.

You are there to relay information that will be easy for them to not only understand but also for them to have information that they can truthfully pass on to others. The idea of being a journalist isn’t to just relay a message to only one person but to spread the message to many people.

You want to have more than one friend you want to have a group that you know can support you and have your back in times of need.

No one likes the friend who is a back stabber and only says different things to be popular. Keep that in mind the next time you write an article. Ask yourself am I being the truthful friend I know I can be?
