The advertising industry is important for companies to get their messages across to costumers. Their job is important in gaining the attention of current and future customers. With the rise of social media, ads pop up just about every second. The age where people begin their social media presence continues to get lower and lower. This means that children are also being influenced by ads the pop up on social media. The New York Times says, "In a study published last month in the journal Pediatrics, Jerry L Grenard, a health researcher at Claremont Graduate University, and his colleagues followed almost 4,000 students from seventh through 10th grade, assessing their exposure to alcohol advertising on the television and asking about their alcohol use." The study found that advertisements influenced their consumption of alcohol. The study also states, "But his new results take the concerns a step further. "This study linked exposure to alcohol advertising to an increase in alcohol use among adolescents and then that in turn is associated with higher level of problems with drinking alcohol, getting drunk, missing school, getting into fights." he said."  With the findings in this study, we are able to see that the advertisements on social media have a large impact on the actions of the younger generations.

The Offical Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics says, "Harm may also be caused by the overwhelming exposure to all types of marketing, and the images within this marketing, that children and adolescents experience." They continue on by giving examples like the effects of negative body image on young females and the use of tobacco products. It has become popular for companies to redact their ads from the public because they display a controversial message. Due to the fact, that the younger children are consumed with social media, they are largely impacted by the messages displayed on social media via advertisements.

As people begin to feel more comfortable expressing their feelings towards an advertisement on social media, many companies are forced to remove the ad due to the negative feedback. The most popular ad that was pulled is the Kendall Jenner and Pepsi ad. To summarize the ad depicted Kendall Jenner sharing a Pepsi with the police force in an attempt to end a police brutality riot. There was a lot of negative feedback towards Pepsi and Kendall Jenner. The ad was taken down and Pepsi, along with Kendall Jenner issued an apology on the ad stating that they meant no harm with the message behind the commercial. This is a prime example of how the advertising industry has an important job and one wrong move can misconstrue the message behind an ad that costs thousands of dollars.

The advertisement industry largely influences the products people use, the places they go to eat, which brands people trust along with many more tasks.  The Medium states, "Marketing and Advertising play a huge role in shaping our society - the way we think, understand, and act." With this, the advertising industry needs to pay close attention to the messages they convey to the public and the possible miscommunications that can come about it.
