Modern Day News

In today's society news is distributed through different types of mediums. Whereas, back in the day, news was only distributed through newspaper and television primarily, and magazine came about a little later. Today there are numerous ways to receive news: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Internet sites, and Blogs.

There are many internet sites where you can receive, but my personal favorite internet website that I visit everyday is Yahoo. My generation can definitely appreciate getting the news from the internet because we have our phones, laptops, and tablets with us 24/7. For example, Twitter is a quick and easy way to receive news, in fact, breaking news. In some instances, when there is a school shooting, bombing, or any other tragedy, Twitter is the first news outlet to get the information before a news station gets the information. When a person is in a tragedy and they have their phone, all they have to do is tweet about it and its for the entire world to see, then later, news stations get the information and report it.

In an article titled, "Fundamental Values" that we read for class, it states that online news and online journalism is great, but the credibility can be questioned. Although that is something to keep in mind, I totally disagree because just because news is broadcasted on television versus Twitter doesn't mean that its necessarily credible either. If anything, I think news from Twitter would be more authentic and true because they're tweeting the experience as it's happening. However, some people do lie and stretch the truth, so you can't believe everything that you read on the Internet or social media. You just have to use common sense and good judgement. The article also expresses that journalist use technology well, and I think that is very accurate. As journalist, its essential to get our content out to the world, and technology is the perfect way to do that.

The modern way of receiving news and sharing content through social media and technology is beneficial to both the viewers and the journalist, and I just hope older generations be able to adjust to that because that is what the world is changing into.
